GQ.com announces the GQ fashion 100

WEBWIRE

GQ has announced its list of the top 100 most important people in menswear in the UK.

The judges for the GQ Fashion 100 list looked at the activities of all the fashion movers and shakers in the UK in order to decide who the most important trend setters in the business currently are.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Sir Philip Green managed to head the list. As the owner of the Arcadia Group, the UK’s largest privately owned clothing retailer with more than 2,500 outlets, including Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evan, Miss Selfridge, Topman, Topshop and Wallis, he dominates the scene like no other individual.

Harold Tillman, chairman of Jaeger, came in at the number two position. Tillman is a global ambassador for the best of British and has proved to be a serious force in the luxury menswear market.

Paul Kelly, CEO of Selfridges was placed third overall by the GQ judges. Whilst in control of the Selfridges department store in London, he has celebrated the centenary of the iconic Oxford Street store and overseen it as it has become more influential than ever.

Making up the final positions in the prestigious top five are über-designer Sir Paul Smith who represents what is best about British menswear: well made, quirky, always interesting and never seem to put a foot wrong, and Twilight actor Robert Pattinson - today’s ultimate male fashion icon.

To ensure the list is truly representative, the winners were judged on more than just their financial muscle. As well as business acumen, GQ also appraised their creativity and social connections. For the sake of fairness (or possibly modesty) GQ also chose not to include any employees at GQ.

The full GQ Fashion 100 list can be found on the GQ.com website.
