Siemens to provide seawater reverse osmosis packages for oil fields
Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA, Modec selected Siemens Water Technologies to provide Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) systems for several Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels to be operated in deepwater locations. With a combined value of more than €2 million, these systems will be installed to produce low total dissolved solids (TDS) water from a raw seawater source that will be used as wash water in the crude desalting process. This will improve the export quality of the crude produced at each of the installations and is an integral part of the overall topside production facilities for FPSOs. The product water can also be used as plant utility water and, with some additional post-treatment, for potable water purposes within the installation.
Although the SWRO system capacities vary from 500 to 5,000 bpd treated water, for each Siemens supplies a fully operational design, with pre-treatment and chemical conditioning for the RO modules, to provide a total solution for the customer. Siemens’ ability to deliver the systems in the shortest possible timeframe while ensuring that customer specifications and requirements were closely followed was critical to Modec’s selection of Siemens for this equipment.
Key to Siemens’ success of securing projects with Modec was the manufacturer’s willingness to work closely with Modec to ensure that issues of accessibility, ease of installation, materials suitability and selection, and delivery to match the FPSO outfitting schedule were properly addressed. The Siemens team has liaised constantly with Modec to continue to exceed expectations and to justify the confidence shown by Modec in awarding these projects with Siemens.
Siemens Water Technologies has supplied custom-built SWRO systems at more than 50 installations throughout the world, for FPSOs, marine vessels, offshore supply vessels, and offshore military vessels.
Modec is a general contractor specializing in engineering, procurement, construction and installation, as well as operation and maintenance services of floating production systems around the world, including Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessels, Tension Leg Platforms (TLPs), Production Semi-Submersibles, Mobile Offshore Production Units (MOPUs), and other new technologies that will meet the challenges of various types of gas production floaters.
