Oversight Risk Consulting Opens Office in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia (March 8, 2010) – Oversight Risk Consulting announced today the re-opening of their office in Bogota, Colombia. Oversight specializes in security risk management, consulting and services.

“We are pleased to again be open for business in Colombia” said Mike Faessler, President and Founder of Oversight. “We see great opportunity in Colombia. The security situation continues to improve, generating greater foreign investment in a variety of sectors, from mining to tourism. The near-term outlook appears favorable, and we believe having our office here is the perfect location to service other parts of Latin America as well”.

Faessler explained, “We actually opened Oversight in July 2008, starting with just one large client – global gold mining giant AngloGold Ashanti (AGA). But, later that year I accepted an offer to become AGA’s Vice President – Global Security. As such, during 2009 we moved to Johannesburg to help build the architecture and “best practices” to support AGA’s 4,000 security professionals at 21 gold mines and exploration on 5 continents.”

Faessler is a retired US military officer and graduate of West Point. He has worked 11 years in Latin America – most of that time in Colombia, both in the government and private sectors. Before forming Oversight Faessler was the Director of Security for AngloGold Ashanti’s Colombia office. In early 2007 he was the Operations Manager for Control Risks’ Andean Ridge office in Bogota.

Oversight’s approach to client support is based upon the newly released international standard: ISO 31000, which is end-to-end risk management to crisis management. Faessler comments, “The ISO 31000 first draft came out in November last year. It is the methodology that all risk and security professionals will move toward. I think ISO 31000 is an excellent model to help companies become more proactive in security risk management. It actually helps security departments to also become more efficient, and, in many cases reduces overall cost. We hope to be leader in helping companies make this important transformation”.
