Continued Innovation Improves Network Operations and Enables Efficient, Cost-effective IPTV Deployments

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 20, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced a comprehensive set of new features that enable service providers to address the operational issues associated with the introduction of advanced IP-based services such as IPTV. The enhancements span Juniper’s portfolio of best-in-class networking solutions, enabling service providers to streamline network operations and cost-effectively introduce new services on their networks.

As service providers continue to migrate from ATM to Ethernet-based infrastructures to support emerging applications and services, improving operational efficiencies at scale has become an increasingly important priority. The new features introduced today provide added intelligence for network layer Operations Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P).

“Introducing new services such as IPTV requires us to scale and evolve our network, but it is important for us to maintain operational consistency—both for the benefit of our customers and to keep costs at minimum,” said Ricardo Arevalo, vice president of operations of Maxcom. “Juniper continues to deliver features and product enhancements that enable us to keep pace with a changing market without making dramatic changes in our back office support systems.”

“Preventing service disruption and controlling operational expenses requires continued innovation to keep pace with the rapid changes occurring in today’s service provider networks,” said Kim Perdikou, general manager service provider and executive vice president, Infrastructure Products Group. “Our commitment to operational efficiency is one of the cornerstones of our Service Provider Infranet Architecture, which enables service providers to create agile, open and customized multiservice networks for increased revenue opportunities.”

The new features address management, security, availability and automation in service provider networks and are available today on a variety of Juniper platforms, including the E320 Broadband Services Router, which is currently deployed in over 15 service provider customer networks today. The new features include:

Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) integration and a policy-based volume tracking application for the SDX-300 Service Delivery Platform, which automates threat mitigation and increases network control;
In-service Update feature for the E-series Broadband Services Router, which enables non-disruptive software updates for maximum network availability;
Flow Mirroring support for Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the E-series, which enhances troubleshooting operations and addresses regulatory compliance;
Link Aggregation support for Ethernet interfaces on the E-series, which provides high network availability during both planned and unplanned network outages;
Firewall Filters for J-Web, a web-based management system, which controls access to Juniper devices, therefore increasing network security;
Extended data export capabilities for the JUNOScope IP Services Manager for ensuring seamless integration with OSS and NMS systems.
“It’s heartening to see a networking vendor acknowledge the critical importance of containing operations costs, and Juniper has addressed three critical components that absolutely have to be controlled,” said Tom Nolle, president and CEO of CIMI Corporation. “They’re providing network monitoring that links into OSS processes, they’re expanding policy-based management to address mass market low-touch requirements, and they’re mitigating the problems of denial of service attacks. All of this combines to help operators keep their operations cost growth manageable as they explore new services, new customers, and new revenues.”
