The Weather Channel Appoints Two Senior Counsels and Announces Promotion in Legal Department

Sheri McGaughy Promoted to Vice President, Legal; Stephen Kabler and Jerald DotsonJoin TWC as Senior Legal Counsel

The Weather Channel® (TWC) has promoted Sheri McGaughy to vice president, Legal and appoints Stephen Kabler and Jerald Dotson to senior counsel posts in Legal Department.

Sheri McGaughy, who has been with TWC for more than 10 years, has been promoted to vice president, Legal, where she will continue to oversee legal work for all of The Weather Channel Companies, and will have additional supervisory responsibilities for the legal team. McGaughy has a strong legal and technical background, with expertise in interactive, mobile and network distribution transactions.

A seasoned cable television veteran and past president of the Atlanta chapter of Women in Cable Television (WICT), McGaughy is an alumna of Class XIX of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute and a long-term member of WICT, serving most recently at president of the WICT Atlanta Chapter and leading the chapter to its third straight Chapter of the Year Award.

Stephen Kabler joins TWC as senior legal counsel, where he will help negotiate major multi-platform distribution deals for TWC’s networks. Most recently, Kabler was vice president, programming business development at XM Satellite Radio, where he was as member of the programming acquisitions team that developed XM’s first 100-channel lineup and launched the business. Prior to that, Kabler directed global business and legal affairs as senior vice president, business affairs, and general counsel at National Geographic Channels International. Kabler spent his early career practicing in several national law firms including Hogan & Hartson. He is a member of CTAM and a native of the Washington, D.C., area.

Also joining TWC as senior legal counsel is Jerald Dotson, who will handle legal matters for TWC’s Internet and mobile businesses. Most recently, Dotson was executive counsel, Legal and Business Affairs at Disney Interactive Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company. While there, he provided intellectual property law expertise and executive-level legal and business affairs services. A former electrical engineer with patents in the field of fiber optics, Dotson started his legal career at Irell & Manella, a Los Angeles firm with a national IP practice. Dotson is an Atlanta native and a member of the State Bar of California and of the State Bar of Georgia.
