TANDBERG Television Unveils Next Generation Digital Media Solutions for IPTV Market at TelecomNEXT 2006

Company to introduce innovative compression, on-demand and interactive solutions for IPTV

Atlanta, March 17, 2006 - TANDBERG Television (TAT.OL) announced today that it will show its world class end-to-end compression, on-demand and interactive solutions for IPTV at TelecomNEXT in Las Vegas March 19-22 booth #631. With more than 50 IPTV deployments worldwide, TANDBERG Television is a market leader enabling IPTV operators to reach new heights in television experiences. At TelecomNEXT, TANDBERG Television will showcase its complete IPTV solution, marking the first time a technology provider has taken streaming technology into an on-demand environment. The combination of TANDBERG Television’s sophisticated compression technology with on-demand packaging, encoding and interactivity, is leading the industry into the next generation of IPTV.

“We see huge potential for IPTV on a global level, as the television business shifts to digital and consumers demand a more sophisticated television experience,” said Reggie Bradford, President, TANDBERG Television. “We are committed to bringing to market robust IPTV solutions that will give IPTV operators a competitive edge and add new revenue streams through on-demand and interactive services. As a result, TANDBERG Television is enabling the necessary business and product models required to usher in a new era of television.”

As the global leader in video compression, TANDBERG Television is driving the next generation of technologies that are making IPTV a reality for network operators. At TelecomNEXT, TANDBERG Television will showcase its advanced encoding platforms that manage bandwidth, deliver broadcast quality video over IP networks, and ensure quality of service. TANDBERG Television is the only company that can offer complete compression technology for SMPTE VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC in broadcast quality for both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) formats.

In addition, TANDBERG Television will demonstrate how IPTV networks may be made more reliable and improve a service operator’s quality of service, with FEC (Forward Error Correction) that virtually guarantees the reliable reception of the data stream over an IP network and an auto redundancy control system solution that includes RIP (Routing Information Protocol), which reroutes programming to an alternative network path so service delivery disruptions are minimized. In the booth, TANDBERG Television will illustrate an IPTV network subject to impairments and demonstrate how TANDBERG Television and its partners overcome these service delivery problems.

Also, TANDBERG Television will be showcasing its solutions for multiple resolution and picture-in-picture (PiP), enabling technology for advanced video mosaics and next evolution video programming guides. By leveraging its middleware partnerships, TANDBERG Television will show how real-time video plus PiP creates a complete user experience.

By working with TANDBERG Television, IPTV operators can now leverage the powerful capabilities of the most widely commercially deployed solution for on-demand content creation. TANDBERG Television will be showing for the first time its Xport™ technology designed for an IPTV network. Xport is a content creation and packaging tool for MPEG-4 AVC video-on-demand. This marks the first time in the industry that a company is taking streaming technology into an on-demand environment. As such, there has never been a tool to do high quality encode and capture for MPEG-4 AVC until now. In the booth, TTV will demo Xport by illustrating how IPTV operators can capture MPEG-4 AVC files and get twice the amount of content as other service providers.

In addition, TANDBERG Television will be showcasing its OpenStream® Digital Services Platform, the only completely open back office on-demand system. It brings scalability and open architecture to IPTV and is widely deployed worldwide. By choosing an open architecture, IPTV operators are able to set up new interactive features easily and quickly, and are not locked into proprietary hardware. OpenStream technology is extremely scalable and component-based, so the technology can gradually grow with the operator as it expands its footprint.

Also being demonstrated in the booth is TANDBERG Television’s leading asset management system, MediaPoint® AMS, which manages the flow of content for on-demand systems. MediaPoint validates the metadata to industry standard specifications and dynamically puts rules in place to ensure content is consistently being delivered to the end user.

Incorporating interactivity into their services will be a primary differentiator for IPTV operators and will enhance the overall viewing experience for the end-user. As such, TANDBERG Television is working closely with telcos to build out interactive infrastructures on an open platform while leveraging its relationships with the content community, its creative expertise and its ability to measure and track user responses to create compelling IPTV services.

At TelecomNEXT, TANDBERG Television will demonstrate interactive user experiences enabled through a set-top box, including a t-commerce application allowing viewers to purchase products featured on air using their remote controls and a game show application that allows viewers to play along with the broadcast.
