Bilprovningen has already started to adapt its operations to the forthcoming changes in the vehicle inspection market and as part of this work has chosen to outsource the majority of its IT activities to Tieto. The contract covers operation, support and management services, including the development of existing information systems. The deal will further strengthen Tieto’s position as a leading outsourcing partner for companies and official bodies in the state and public sector.

New regulations governing the vehicle inspection market in Sweden will come into force on 1 July 2010. This will make significant demands of Bilprovningen’s IT operations in terms of scalability and the adaptation of cost levels to future market shares.

“Outsourcing parts of our operation is part of the programme of change work we’re pursuing in order to be better equipped in readiness for the deregulation of our market. We chose Tieto as our IT outsourcing partner as they were the ones that best met our requirements. It feels good working with a competent partner who is established in the industry,” says Magnus Ehrenstråhle, CEO of Bilprovningen.

“Many state-owned companies are facing the same challenge. Tieto’s industry knowledge, combined with our experience of using IT in change work, can provide significant added value to these customers,” says Krister Högne, Head of the Tieto Industry Group in Sweden. “We’re delighted that Bilprovningen has put their trust in us and look forward to supporting them during this period of change.”

Bilprovningen will now have access to Tieto’s capacity service in IT operation, which means that the company can sub-order capacity according to its needs and requirements. Tieto offers Bilprovningen a unique level of IT environment flexibility and will also assume responsibility for coordinating applications and other suppliers using the ASM (Application Service Management) collaboration model.

The contract will be signed on 26 January, provided that no objections are raised within 10 days in accordance with the terms of the Swedish Public Procurement Act. In terms of value, the contract is worth around SEK 75 million and will run for three years, with the option of a three plus three-year extension. The deal will also see Tieto offer 15 Bilprovningen employees the opportunity to join the company. All central IT equipment will be moved to Tieto’s IT operations centre.
