The Thomson Corporation Names Carl Urbania Senior Vice President, Corporate Chief Information Officer

STAMFORD, Conn., 03/15/2006, The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) today announced the appointment of Carl Urbania, 63, as senior vice president, corporate chief information officer.

With more than nine years of experience working for Thomson, Mr. Urbania will now be responsible for transforming Thomson’s business information systems into one integrated, efficient and effective business systems environment capable of serving as one of Thomson’s platforms for the future. Mr. Urbania will report directly to Thomson EVP and corporate chief technology and operations officer, Michael Wilens.

Mr. Urbania most recently served as senior vice president and chief technology officer for Thomson Learning where he worked to ensure that the business had the technology strategies and systems in place to generate continual growth and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage.

At the corporate level, Mr. Urbania is one of the founding members of The Thomson Corporation’s Technology Council, which is responsible for setting broad corporate policies relative to technology and the sponsoring of strategic initiatives that leverage technology activities throughout the company.

Mr. Urbania joined Thomson in 1997 from Time Inc. where he was the Director of Information Technology. Prior to Time Inc., Mr. Urbania was vice president of systems and administrative services at John Wiley & Sons. Mr. Urbania has also held leadership positions in the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries with Bristol Myers, Pfizer Inc. and Lever Bros. Co.

Mr. Urbania holds a BA degree in economics from the City College of New York and completed graduate work at George Washington University.
