Jerry Elliott Named CFO/CAO For The Weather Channel Companies

Jerry Elliott, former chief financial officer of Virgin Media, has been named chief financial officer/chief administrative officer for The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC). In this newly created role, Elliott will have overall responsibility for the company’s finance, legal, administrative and human resources functions. He will be based at the company’s Atlanta headquarters and report to Michael J. Kelly, CEO of TWCC.

In making the announcement, Kelly said “Jerry is an experienced leader with more than 25 years in corporate, legal and financial settings. His vast experience and expertise will be a tremendous asset for us as we strive towards our goal of being the industry leader in cross platform media solutions.”

As CFO of Virgin Media, Elliott directed all financial departments for the London-based cable TV, mobile and Internet services company, including leading the company’s cable network business. Previously, he served as CFO and COO of Cengage Learning, a provider of electronic and print educational materials. Elliott has also been a director of Tekelec, a director of SunCom Wireless and an Adjunct Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Elliott served as CEO and president of Global Signal until its sale to Crown Castle for $5.7 billion. Prior to that, he was CFO and then president of Frontier Communications. Earlier in his career, Elliott was managing director of the media and communications investment banking group for Morgan Stanley and a partner at Shearman & Sterling, an international law firm where he specialized in corporate finance.

A native of Knoxville, TN, Elliott holds an L.L.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and both a J.D. and B.B.A. in Accounting and Finance from Baylor University.
