DriverTech Selects NAVTEQ as Preferred Map Provider
Chicago, IL – March 13, 2006 – NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for location based solutions and vehicle navigation, has been selected by DriverTech as its preferred digital map provider for the United States and Canada. DriverTech utilizes NAVTEQ® maps for its military and commercial fleet management systems.
As DriverTech’s preferred map data supplier, NAVTEQ supports the DT4000 system, an open, Windows XP based, onboard computer system for vehicles. The DriverTech system provides in-vehicle, computing resources and an intelligent link between the driver and many sources of data communication coming from or to the vehicle such as work assignments, mapping along with GPS information, and engine data.
Used in both government and commercial applications, the DT4000 system is built to military specifications and has shown that its system immediately enables fleets to leverage not only many software applications, but also the multitude of lower cost, wireless networks that are available and continually expanding.
NAVTEQ employs one of the industry’s most comprehensive development and quality control programs for the highest levels of quality and precision. Executed by an extensive team of over 550 field researchers, the NAVTEQ database includes detailed attributes from turn restrictions and relative road crossing heights to road segment access restrictions, one-way streets and speed categories that help optimize routing. Additionally, NAVTEQ maps include Points of Interest including restaurants, hospitals, shopping centers and leisure facilities, making it easier to locate and route to many different destinations.
“Our selection of NAVTEQ data gives DriverTech "best-in-class" mapping for our customers,” commented Mark Haslam, President, DriverTech. “Integrating NAVTEQ with the DriverTech system gives companies the real-time mapping they need"
“DriverTech has shown a solid commitment to developing industry-leading products for fleet applications, a strategy that has earned DriverTech recent wins with large fleets. Together we are leveraging our combined capabilities to deliver exceptional navigation solutions that address specialized requirements for professional drivers,” said Roy Kolstad, Vice President and General Manager – Business and Government Solutions, NAVTEQ.
About DriverTech
DriverTech designs and builds the DT4000 system, which is an open, Windows XP based, onboard computer system for vehicles. The DriverTech system provides in-vehicle, computing resources and an intelligent link between the driver and many sources of data communication coming from or to the vehicle such as work assignments, mapping along with GPS information, and engine data. The DriverTech system is a true ’Tri-Mode’ system (Satellite, Cellular and Wi-Fi) that has the ability to connect these wireless networks simultaneously and then use a least-cost algorithm to automatically route data via the lowest cost communication option. Thus, users of the DriverTech system are seeing a tenfold decrease in their satellite messaging usage with 98% of messaging going over low-cost cellular or Wi-Fi networks. Used in both government and commercial applications, the system is built to military specifications and will withstand the heat, cold, moisture, and vibration typical of a vehicle environment. Fleets use a suite of DriverTech software as well as their own applications on the DT4000. DriverTech has shown that its system immediately enables fleets to leverage not only many software applications, but also the multitude of lower cost, wireless networks that are available and continually expanding.
