Hollywood Comes to Inner City Dallas Beauty Schools

WEBWIRE

DALLAS, GRAND PRAIRIE & IRVING, TX (December 6, 2009) It’s been a little longer than 6 months since Cristina Grimm, a renowned and young national makeup artist and stylist from California completed her acquisition of 3 beauty schools in inner city Dallas. Ms. Grimm says she wanted to make a difference is peoples lives and give back some of the opportunities she was given. “…I was given some incredible opportunities at such a young age because some people believed in me, I want to do the same for others..” she says “I want to make it a reality for some aspiring young artists to live their dream of going to LA or NY for Fashion Week, or work on a movie set or a magazine spread”. Ms. Grimm has done most of those things while still under the age of 27. So when opportunity came knocking she packed her bags and off to Texas it was.

With 3 locations in the inner city and seemingly disadvantaged parts of Dallas, the previous owners advancement in age that left the schools’ last few years of operations in dire need of fresh creative juices and ideas. The Jones Beauty Colleges were what you would call a fixer-upper. They seemed perfect.

Cristina’s first priority was to create a lost sense of pride and breathe life back into those little girl dreams of making it to the big time. She started with the teachers. “…you had to re-inspire the teachers first…”: All teachers had to go through a 5 week intense re-training program. Not everyone liked the new approach, some resented the youth of the new owner. Most adapted and saw the vision. “…Its fairly intimidating to have someone less than half your age telling you what to do…but when you put that aside, start listening to what she wants to do, the things she is bringing to the table and changes she is making, you can’t help but get swept into the wave of change..” Says Burma Wisdom a long time teacher for the previous owners. Alexandra Ruiz current director at the Irving campus says “ People initially thought: who is this girl from California? But then she started doing classes for the staff and students, all of a sudden they were like WOW that’s great stuff..this girl knows what she is talking about.”

Today, the curriculum at Tint has been radically changed to include more advanced cutting and coloring and makeup techniques, the students kit includes a professional grade makeup kit and has been infused with other higher grade supplies. Best of all Cristina is using her California connection to bring in some real Hollywood talent to Dallas. The students will enjoy and connect with some nationally published and true movie makeup and styling artists. She believes by June next year students will be ready to accompany her on some national projects or have the confidence, connections and know how to get their own.

Cristina Grimm is a graduate of Elite Progressive School of Cosmetology, studied in London at the Vidal Sassoon and Tony and Guy Academies, and had formal makeup training at the Cinema Makeup Academy in Los Angeles. She held the position of Director of Operations for Elite Progressive Cosmetology for 3 years until the company was sold in December 2008. She is currently a national makeup artist for Pigment Cosmetics and her work has been featured in several magazines. She also participated in several LA Mercedes Benz Fashion Weeks for designers Joseph Domingo and Anthony Franco.
