Nurse Education Rounds out Campus’ Career Training Offerings

McLean, Va. (December 7, 2009) – The shortage of registered nurses is expected to continue in the Northern Virginia area, and nationwide, as the population ages and more people live longer. With the launch of its Nursing Associate Degree Program, Everest College - Tysons Corner campus will help meet the need for quality heath care and the increasing demand for nurses.

The 24-month program prepares nursing students, upon graduation, for the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse exam (NCLEX-RN). The NCLEX-RN is a requirement for becoming licensed as a registered nurse. Training includes topics such as pharmacology, nutrition, geriatric nursing, maternal, child and infant nursing, mental health nursing, community health nursing, medical surgical nursing, fundamentals of nursing, clinical nursing skills and nursing leadership, as well as patient care skills. During the nursing program, students practice their skills in a variety of clinical settings, including acute care hospitals.

“With a shortage of nurses in Northern Virginia, waitlists can be upwards of a year before students can begin any nurse training,“ says Sheri Delozier, Tysons Corner campus president. ”Our curriculum is designed to help students complete a quality nursing program in just two years and enter the job market quickly. Our classrooms have modern technology to help our students stay abreast of the latest medical techniques.”

In addition, Everest’s Career Placement Services team helps nursing school graduates apply for jobs and prepare for interviews. Graduates of the program can expect to begin their nursing careers through entry-level positions in hospitals and medical centers, school settings, physicians’ offices, urgent care and surgery centers, nursing home facilities, and rehabilitation clinics.
