Recognizes industry’s first “green mobile base station end-to-end solution

Paris - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it will receive France’s Digital Green Growth Prize. The Prize, which is awarded for the first time, will be presented to the company today in a ceremony taking place in Paris.

Alcatel-Lucent won the award in the category of “Digital and eco-sustainable enterprise ”which aims at reducing the carbon footprint of products and services. Alcatel-Lucent is recognized for having developed the first end-to-end “green” mobile base station solution powered with alternative energies(solar, wind, fuel cells, etc.).

The telecommunications industry estimates that more than 100,000 mobile base stations shall be equipped with alternative energy solutions between 2009 and 2012, representing a yearly savings of about 7 million tons of CO2 in comparison with the use of classical electrical networks or autonomous diesel generator power units.

The Digital Green Growth Prize(Prix de la croissance verte numérique) is organized by the French state (ministry of Economy, ministry of Sustainable development, ministry for digital growth, ministry for Prospective and the development of Digital economy, ADEME and OSEO)), entreprises (Alliance TICS, Fédération française des télécommunications, Fédération des industries électriques, électroniques et de communication, MEDEF et Syntec informatique), research institutes (Institut Télécom) and the ACIDD (Association communication et information pour le développement durable) association for eco-sustainability.

The Prize further recognizes Alcatel-Lucent’s “Alternative Energy Program” which aims at helping the deployment of mobile base stations powered with alternative energy in order to meet the growing need for “green” and energy-autonomous mobile networks. The Program’s objective is to ensure that service providers can quickly and cost-efficiently deploy wireless networks even to areas not served by electrical power, in all range of climates and geographies and under all deployment conditions.
