IOC Coordination Commission In London For Fifth Visit

The IOC Coordination Commission for the London 2012 Olympic Games will visit the British host city for the second time this year, when it meets the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) on 25 and 26 November.

This is the first time that the Commission will be in London twice in the same year, as, for the first three years of preparations, the Commission visits only once. This underlines the fact that London will host the next summer Games and that the level of planning is becoming ever more detailed.
Broad Overview

For this fifth visit, the Commission, led by its Chairman, Denis Oswald, will hear updates from LOCOG and its local government partners on areas as diverse as sport, the Olympic Villages, venue and infrastructure progress, city operations, marketing, National Olympic Committee services, press operations, technology and the Paralympic Games. The diversity of the areas to be looked at by the Commission will give a broad overview of the progress being made by LOCOG in its Games planning, and will allow the members to provide any guidance or share their vast Games experience in order to ensure that the London Games are of the highest standard for the athletes in 2012.
LONDON 2012

London was elected as the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad on 6 July 2005 at the 117th IOC Session in Singapore. London eventually succeeded in the fourth round of voting, taking 54 votes from a possible 104. London faced stiff opposition during the vote from the other four candidate cities: Paris, New York, Moscow and Madrid. There will be 26 sports on the Olympic Programme in London in 2012 and around 10,500 athletes.
