Social media integration and the ability to reach international audiences further establishes a new standard for video streaming

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – November 20, 2009 – Leading enhanced video solutions provider, PLYmedia (www.plymedia.com), is launching today its live video captioning product as a new offering within PLYmedia’s suite of SubPLY services, utilizing Ustream’s platform to provide live captions for TechCrunch’s RealTime CrunchUp event in San Francisco.

To view the live webcast of the event, go to: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/crunchup.

PLYmedia also announced that they have partnered with leading Internet broadcast and online video platforms, including Ustream, Livestream (who are also launching the service today), Ooyala, Brightcove, Kaltura, KIT digital and Kyte to offer live captioning services for their customers’ videos.

In addition to live captioning the event, PLYmedia will also be demoing several services that complement their new product, including:

• Automatic translation into multiple languages
• Transcript generation – to increase natural search rankings for when the video content is archived
• Social media integration with Twitter or any other social network for fast content distribution and real time search
• Automatic real time keyword tag generation to facilitate video browsing

Live streaming has seen a huge uptake over the past year with verticals such as news, sports, education, enterprises and government adding captions and subtitles to:

• Increase the number of users who watch video at work, but are unable to utilize audio;
• Reach the 36 million Americans that suffer from some form of hearing loss;
• Help the 30+ million Americans for whom English is a second language.

“We’re thrilled to now be offering live video captioning service in multiple languages to our customers. Not only will it make their live stream events more accessible and searchable – but the real innovation is to allow Twitter and Facebook users to follow the conversation through the text updates and dip in and out of the stream based on their interests in the current conversation,” said Max Haot, CEO of Livestream.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with each of these companies, especially insofar as we are able to help them reach new audiences and increase the video viewing times of those audiences,” said Yoni Silberberg, Co-founder and Head of Business Development at PLYmedia. “Our goal is always to benefit both viewers and our partners by increasing accessibility and engagement in online video and I believe we are continuing to accomplish these ends in all of our recent partnerships.”
