Airbus has delivered Lufthansa’s 100th A320 Family aircraft from Airbus’ Final Assembly Line in Hamburg. The aircraft, an A320, was handed over to Lufthansa yesterday evening.

Nico Buchholz, Lufthansa’s Head of Corporate Fleet Management said: “The acquisition and delivery of the 100th A320 Family aircraft is another milestone in our partnership with Airbus. We are continuing to benefit from the reliability, economic and ecological efficiency, as well as the passenger appeal of the A320 Family.”

Airbus Chief Operating Officer - Customers, John Leahy commented: “The delivery of Lufthansa’s 100th A320 Family aircraft not only speaks for the tremendous success of the A320 programme, but also for our strong relationship with Lufthansa, one of the world’s largest Airbus operators.”

He added: “The A320 Family is the world’s most eco-efficient, modern and reliable. The programme’s leadership will be strengthened through constant improvements in aerodynamics, weight reduction, operational efficiencies and increased cabin comfort.”

Lufthansa is one of the longest standing and largest Airbus operators worldwide. Currently the airline operates more than 170 Airbus aircraft, including aircraft from the A340, A330 and A320 Families. To date, Lufthansa has on order 58 Airbus aircraft. Thanks to the excellent seat-mile costs, the A320 Family enables the Lufthansa Group to offer more new services combined with high-end passenger comfort levels.

The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly-by-wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. More than 6,400 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world’s best selling commercial jetliner ever. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle aircraft, and with continuous enhancements, is set to remain the leader in its segment for years to come.
