Companies Announce Plans to Develop Agile, Open, Customized Carrier-Grade Solutions

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 8, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) and NEC Corporation (NASDAQ: NIPNY) of Japan, global provider of IT/Network solutions, today announced an expansion of their partnership to include plans to develop next-generation networking (NGN) solutions for the Japanese carrier market. Both companies plan to enable integration of NEC’s advanced optical component and transmission technology with Juniper Networks’ carrier-class IP routing platforms to produce multi-terabit solutions with low power consumption geared toward the demanding requirements of Japanese carriers.

In addition to research and development in next-generation networking, the partners also plan to develop agile, open and customized solutions based on the Juniper Networks JUNOS routing operating system. NEC also reiterated its commitment to provide nationwide, round-the-clock technical support for carrier customers using Juniper Networks products.

NEC’s partnership with Juniper Networks originated in Japan in 2001. In late 2005, NEC and Juniper Networks announced joint development of secure Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions for the Japan market based on Juniper Networks’ network security platforms and NEC’s IP-PBX VoIP solutions.

“Our goal is to continue to provide products and support services that will meet Japanese carriers’ NGN requirements by leveraging the competitive advantages of both Juniper and NEC,” said Yoichi Isokawa, associate senior vice president and executive general manager, Broadband Networks Operations Unit for NEC Corporation.

“We expect this collaboration will continue to build on our successful partnership in response to customer requirements in Japan,” said Masanori Osuga, vice president of Japan for Juniper Networks. “By merging best-in-class optical networking and routing technology from the two companies, we expect to address some of the requirements for Japanese carriers to continue to improve operational efficiencies.”

“We look forward to the results from our expanded partnership with NEC,” added Osuga. “Japan is one of the world’s leading markets for high-performance telecommunications and, through this partnership, we are enabling new levels of network capacity that will be the foundation of exciting, innovative communications applications.”
