March 06, 2006, The HBO Documentary Films presentation A Note Of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin received an Academy Award® in the category of Documentary Short Subject and the HBO Documentary Films presentation The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation received an Academy Award® in the category of Animated Short Film when the 78th annual Academy Awards® were presented at the 2006 ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on March 5.

On the evening of VE Day, May 8, 1945, Norman Corwin, often called the “poet laureate of radio drama,” presented a radio program that galvanized and electrified the nation. The broadcast, “On a Note of Triumph,” was a moment that would mark the end of a long national struggle, and, in another sense, set a new standard for the art of radio drama. The documentary A Note Of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin examines one of the greatest radio presentations in the history of the medium and shows how it remains eerily prescient in light of current events. Director and producer, Eric Simonson; producer, Corinne Marrinan. A Note Of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin will debut on Cinemax in August.

The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation explores the difficult emotional terrain of father-son relationships, as seen through director John Canemaker’s own turbulent relationship with his father. Featuring the voices of actors Eli Wallach and John Turturro, the short film breaks new ground both personally and professionally for animator Canemaker, who has won acclaim for his sensitive portrayals of difficult themes through animation. Director, John Canemaker; producer, Peggy Stern. The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation will debut on Cinemax in June.
