Killona, La. – A lot of significant events occurred over the past year. A new president was elected, LSU won college baseball’s national championship, and, most recently, Entergy’s Waterford 3 nuclear power station posted a continuous run of more than 365 days.

Waterford 3’s notable accomplishment of continuous operation ranks in the top ten percent of the industry for forced loss rate. The forced loss rate is the percentage of electrical generation a plant is not capable of supplying to customers because of unplanned shutdowns or load reductions.

“We are surrounded by all kinds of measurement in our industry,” said Site Vice President Joe Kowalewski. “This stands out because the two most vital things we measure are safety and the effective operations of the plant.

“By staying on line for more than 365 days, we are meeting our commitment to our customers and stakeholders by safely and reliably operating this plant,” he said. “We are providing the power that people depend on.”

The success of the forced loss performance highlights a focus on equipment reliability and a commitment to identifying and addressing issues during recent refuel outages and everyday operations.

“We made the effort to aggressively address equipment reliability issues and it paid off,” said Kowalewski. “Everything we do is focused on the safety of our employees and customers while delivering the reliable power they expect from us.”

Waterford 3 Steam Electric Station is owned by Entergy Louisiana LLC., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. Entergy is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $13 billion and approximately 14,700 employees.
