About Talk Like a Pirate Day

Talk Like a Pirate Day was dreamed up in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers while playing a game of racquetball started slinging the pirate slang. The two had so much fun gabbing like pirates they decided that a national holiday was in order. For seven years the two kept Talk like a Pirate Day pretty much to themselves but in 2002 John happened upon Dave Barry, a Pulitzer prize winning syndicated columnist’s email address. Email was exchanged between the two and Dave Barry decided to write a story about the proposed holiday, the rest is history. Talk Like a Pirate Day soon become a National Holiday.
