New migration solution for control systems from Siemens: Connection of ABB Advant controllers to Simatic PCS 7

WEBWIRE

Erlangen, Germany, With the new solution concept for connecting ABB Advant controllers to Simatic PCS 7, the Siemens Industry Solutions Division is further expanding its range of solutions for migrating control systems. The CM104 MB300 gateway is fully integrated into PCS 7 and allows temporary parallel operation of the old and new systems. This not only reduces standstill times and production failures, it also enables step-by-step modernization of the control system.

To link ABB Advant controllers to PCS 7, Siemens has developed a gateway to which you can connect existing I/O units. Gateways are used to link control systems with each other. They transmit process data from the old system to the new system and vice versa, and they also convert protocols and harmonize throughput.

The CM104 MB300 gateway integrated into PCS 7 guarantees temporary parallel operation of the old and new systems with changing communication relationships. It can be designed as a simple connection or as a fully redundant connection. For this purpose, it uses ABB’s Master Bus 300 protocol that ensures transparent communication between the different system environments.

The PCS-7 gateway for ABB Advant controllers is suitable both for migrating Advant systems to PCS 7, and also for expanding such systems with Siemens components. The engineering is carried out using standard PCS 7 and STEP 7 tools, thus enabling step-by-step, low-cost expansion and modernization of existing systems.
