Barnes & Noble Presents Album of the Month Selections for November 2024
Barnes & Noble announces its November selections for Albums of the Month in the following categories: R&B/Soul, Indie/Alternative, Dance/Electronic and Artist to Watch. Exploring the full spectrum of the music industry, the Album of the Month program spotlights new albums, sounds and artists, showcasing upcoming talent and longtime favorites alike.
November’s Artist to Watch is Brigitte Calls Me Baby and their album The Future Is Our Way Out. Following their debut EP This House is Made of Corners earlier this year, The Future Is Our Way Out is an outside-the-box encore bringing together their early jams and new, innovative additions for a complete and addictive musical brand.
“If Morrissey of The Smiths, Elvis Presley, and The Strokes had a baby, the result would be Chicago rising stars Brigitte Calls Me Baby,” said Crissi Bariatti, Senior Merchandise Manager, Barnes & Noble. “The band’s fantastic debut pulls together the best of 50s and 60s crooners with a hint of 80s New Wave, to create a unique yet familiar sound that transcends time.”
The R&B/Soul Monthly Pick, as chosen by Barnes & Noble booksellers, is Thee Sacred Soul’s Got a Story to Tell. Thee Sacred Soul’s eponymous 2022 album received universal acclaim and Got a Story to Tell brings more of the spirit that launched them.
“An appreciation for decades of soul music shines through in Got a Story to Tell, the sophomore album from Thee Sacred Souls,” said Bill Castle, Director of Merchandise, Barnes & Noble. “With their retro soul sound and artful storytelling, you will quickly realize that his band is the real deal.”
The Indie/Alternative Monthly Pick goes to the album What a Relief by Katie Gavin. The debut solo album showcases Gavin’s comprehensive talent for capturing the human experience in music.
“Lead singer of MUNA, Katie Gavin, delves into more personal territory with her debut solo album, What a Relief,” said Tina Mong, Commercial Strategy Manager, Barnes & Noble. “More acoustic-driven than songs with her main band, Gavin recalls ‘90s alt-pop singer/songwriters like Alanis Morissette, Ani DiFranco, and all of your Lilith Fair favorites.”
Lastly, the Dance/Electronic Monthly Pick is Daft Punk’s Discovery. Exploring structure, sound and childhood nostalgia, Discovery also showcases a science fiction inspiration.
“The follow up to their breakthrough album, Homework, Grammy-winning French Electronic Music duo Daft Punk take a funkier, more disco-inspired turn with their 2001 release, Discovery,” said Bariatti. “Featuring the smash hit “One More Time,” this album is pure joy and celebration from beginning to end.”
Every month, Barnes & Noble booksellers choose four exceptional albums that vary in genre and style, spotlighting artists at various stages of their creative journey. Previous Barnes & Noble Albums of the Month selections have included: The Chainsaw Man Soundtrack, by Kensuke Ushio, Vampire Weekend, by Vampire Weekend, JPEG RAW by Gary Clark Jr., In Rainbows, by Radiohead, Little Girl Blue by Nina Simone, Master of Puppets by Metallica, and What Now by Brittany Howard.
