The Estonian has switched to using one of the Japanese machines for this season and made his first FIA World Rally Championship start in the car in Sweden last month.

Linnamäe finished on the podium in WRC2, but also became the first GR Yaris Rally2 driver to score a fastest time overall when he won the second pass of #42 Brattby.

“The car is completely new for this season,” he said. “There’s still some development coming on, but I think it’s a very good result and really promising that already there are two cars on the podium (with Sami Pajari second in WRC2). I haven’t driven [the GR Yaris Rally2] on Tarmac yet, so I don’t think we’ll be scoring points in Croatia.

“We have some catching up with some of the [other Toyota] drivers around us, we haven’t done much mileage in the car yet.”

Talking about making history in Umeå, Linnamäe added: “The conditions were quite crazy this day (Friday). We had an opportunity and it worked, but I don’t want to get too stuck on it. We know the conditions were a little bit freak, but we can still be proud of what we did.”
