Outsider Author Demands Citizen Responsibility to Challenge Conspiracy-Mongering Themes in Democracy and Media in “Stop Pretending, America!”

“Stop Pretending, America!,” a provocative, new book by political outsider Philip J. Gimson, provides readers the tools they need to challenge political leaders claiming the 2020 election was stolen to finally come forward with evidence or stop trying to change a historical fact.

The author points to more than 60 court challenges to the 2020 election that produced no evidence of corroborated voter fraud. Gimson takes no prisoners in faulting the media for allowing false equivalency and a “both sides” mentality to often infiltrate good journalism. The author claims the media let the public down on one of the most important stories in presidential history by not educating the public that 90 files were found empty in the FBI sweep.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) may actually help improve the media’s reporting by opening an era of real-time-fact checking, according to Gimson. The author also castigates current attempts to politicize schools by whitewashing elements of history and undercutting the value of teachers.

While much of his hardest analysis is leveled at Republicans, Gimson also faults Democrats for poor messaging and allowing the GOP to dominate the war on culture, particularly in ignoring the importance of local radio station commentary programs. However, the author lays out a strategy for Democrats to repeat wins in seven battleground states.

Gimson offers a number of unique ideas, suggesting more Americans contact polling companies to raise questions often ignored by the media. He also provides template letters directed to Trump and GOP leaders to demand they produce evidence of election fraud or stop making baseless claims. He even includes letters to the U.S. Supreme Court and the media to make their voices heard. In addition, he lists fact-checking resources to help filter out disinformation on the Internet.

The author also urges the American public to come together, but poses the suggestion that all sides must look to retire Trumpism and move beyond it to foster unity and strengthen American democracy.
