Darcele Cole-Robinson’s Children’s Book “Kaygan’s Adventures: Save Silly Millie!” Will Be Displayed at The London Book Fair 2023

The London Book Fair 2023 will feature books covering a variety of topics, both heavy and light. And yet, some authors face the big task of doing both when they write children’s books on grief. That’s the challenge Darcele Cole-Robinson faced as she published “Kaygan’s Adventures: Save Silly Millie!”

Robinson had recently started authoring children’s books inspired by experiences with her grandchild Kaygan, and one of those times was the sad departure of a beloved family pet. Such deaths are occasionally among the first times that children face the concept, along with feelings of grief and loss and then followed by the difficulties they have processing these difficult concepts.

Yet in Save Silly Millie, Robinson certainly does her best, using rhymes and verse to tell young readers what happened.

Millie was the name of a lovable dog who became Kaygan’s best friend as she grew up. Unfortunately, Millie was already showing signs of her advanced age. She was slowing down and looking unwell before eventually passing away despite Kaygan praying hard she would be okay.

Still, the story does not stay a sad one. Robinson’s clever yet compassionate verses also talk about how the rest of Kaygan’s family stood by the little girl in her grief. It’s a powerful message that teaches both children and their parents about the need to come together when talking about death.

Whether it’s the death of a pet, or a loved one or even when children hear about it from others, it’s important that they will be taught truthfully and gently about it. Robinson’s rhymes show her strong familiarity with these situations. The author hopes LBF visitors can take good lessons from her recent work.

Darcele Marie Cole-Robinson, AAS. BSW, lives in Flint, Michigan. She is a graduate of Flint Northern High School (Vikings!) Class of 1984 and she has graduate with her BSW from the University of Michigan-Flint (Go Blue!) Darcele, is now attending the University of Kentucky where she is pursuing her Master in Social Work and Clinicals.

Darcele has been married for 30 years to her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Robinson Sr., and they have three children: 2 boys, Kenneth 11, Kaleb and a daughter Khyra.

Darcele has spontaneously working in the community with her nonprofit, Donations with Love Foundation, which was established in 2015. During the year, they have several workshops and events: Safe Medication, Building the Bloks, Hoodies for the Homeless, Jamin the Jammas and Holiday Drive. She loves to read, travel, go shopping and online. She also has a business called, Travel with The Robinson LLC, where she takes individuals on trips, to museums, casino, and shopping trips. Darcele loves to read, shop till she drop and travel.

Her passion to write this second debut book of hers so her granddaughter, Kaygan Melena Tyce and her Goddaughters, Ariyah Nicholson and Amariana Dantzler and other children will read adventures book about “SURPRISE AT 5.”

“Kaygan’s Adventures” will be a series and more books will be available.
