Great Mind of 17th Century

Isaac Newton was an English physicist and mathematician famous for his laws of physics. He was a leading light in the Scientific Revolution of the 17th century.

Miami, FL – WEBWIRE

Some have described Sir Isaac Newton as “one of the greatest names in human thought” (Cohen, 1985). Newton was responsible for discovering many outstanding scientific and mathematical concepts. Among those discoveries were his theories of motion and gravitation, light and color components, and his development of calculus’ foundations. We enjoy today, Arthur Ziffer’s book “Standing on the shoulder of the Giants,” the importance of incorporating mathematics in most human lives.

Standing on the shoulders of giants is a metaphor that means “Using the understanding gained by major thinkers who have gone before to make intellectual progress”. As the leading light of the seventeenth century, Newton helped shape how we think and live our lives today. His Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy remain one of the most important books ever written about physics and contains his revolutionary mathematical description of the universe.

Newton’s humility sprang from an early and formative understanding of how knowledge builds upon itself, incrementally improving upon existing ideas until the cumulative adds up to the revolutionary. By grabbing a copy of Standing on the shoulder of the Giants, you will feel engaged in the conversation of the great minds from history that made a great impact on our world today. This book discusses great minds from the 17th century with the leading light himself, Sir Isaac Newton.
