McDaniel’s book uses free verse and blackout poetry to tell one woman’s year-long struggle with depression and anxiety. Although fictional, her situation is not unlike what real people face; depression and anxiety commonly occur together, despite being different conditions. Alongside her battle with mental illness, readers get to know her feelings for an attraction that grows complicated.
