“Gray Dawn” Taking You on a Journey That May Alter Your Mindscape

Henderson, NV – WEBWIRE

Mass incarceration is a bane on American Society.  Enormous amounts of taxpayers’ funds go to support this prison-industrial complex, which has far-reaching, socio-economic implications. What is our real goal here?  With crime rates decreasing and numbers of the incarcerated increasing, we seem to have a complex dilemma to unravel.  Through poetry, Carol Jean Sing describes her experiences, reaching out to those interested in learning about our systemic challenges.  Her next book, due out in 2018, documents the process, from the investigation through the sentencing and offers definitive solutions for consideration of all interested in effecting change.

In this poetry collection, “Gray Dawn,” the author will take you to a journey that may alter your “mindscape.”  Some of the poems were written in a prison camp between 2015 and 2017 and the rest were written in a halfway house from 2017 to 2018.

These are poems of passion, mental struggles and physical survival.  Carol wants to provide the reader with an avenue in which to walk beside her, thus increasing understanding of what she and others experienced in the world of confinement, along with the economic and emotional impact on those outside helping.  Yes, you can ask and think – from the vantage point of the incarcerated -- how does someone in the psychological milieu of constant surveillance and quick retaliation, for often simply perceived deviations from expectations, actually survive intact?

The book shows mental snapshots of people caught in a situation not of their own choosing. Of course, no one wants to be in prison. No one wants to be put in a place where you can never choose what to eat, what do wear, when to sleep and when to just contemplate and yet -- mass incarceration, especially under the amorphous concepts of conspiracy and intent, is rampant in our society.  One in four Americans has been caught in our prison system at some relatively recent point in time. This trend has become a business, costing taxpayers egregious sums of money and before it gets worse, this trend must come to an end.  Even with the crime rates dropping, the conspiracy theory snares hundreds and sometimes potentially thousands of people in a single case.

The author hopes that in this book, you will see, through the beauty in language, what sustains us and how you can help bring rationality back to the criminal justice system.  All that is necessary is to call out for factual findings, instead of using concepts often too vague to test, like conspiracy and intent. All campers personally spoken to, which comprised well over half of the entire camp population, were there on conspiracy charges.

Some people walk freely on the street, others just imagine what that world feels like.  Responsible, law-abiding citizens need to realize the devastating toll mass incarceration is taking on our society.  If justice is not properly administered, we are all potential victims.  It is time to take a stand and revert back to a nation of fair treatment to all.  Many are depending on that realization and resulting action.  It only takes a few, strong people to make a difference.  Our country is beginning to be perceived other than a Republic, where all have a chance to fulfill their dreams.  It is up to us to restore our forefathers’ legacy-- freedom to be what we want to be and the opportunity to fulfill that dream.
