Mariachi Girl - A Bilingual Musical at The Historic Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles on Cinco de Mayo

Following up the successful productions of El Bracero and ¡Ay Chihuahua!, Ánimo Theatre Company will stage Mariachi Girl on May 5th at 3:00 and 5:00 PM at the historic Rita Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles. The musical will debut Estefani Lopez, who showcased her talents on La Voz-Kids and Tengo Talento and features music by Mariachi Aguilas de J. Carlos Ozuna – one of the top Mariachi groups in Southern California.

Mariachi Girl follows a young girl’s dream of following in her father’s footsteps to become a Mariachi, but runs counter to his traditional, patriarchal roots. Through the eyes of a young girl, the musical explores cultural stereotypes and assimilation in the United States. It is a heartwarming story that celebrates cultural identity and promotes a positive self-image for young girls. The musical offers entertainment for the whole family and encourages families to communicate and support each other.

Mariachi Girl is the third production for ÁNIMO Theatre Company and is directed by Miguel Orozco with musical direction by Juan Carlos Ozuna. Mariachi Girl is written by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce with music and lyrics by Hector Martinez Morales. ÀNIMO Theatre Company brings untold stories to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures. Shows such as El Bracero and ¡Ay Chihuahua!, and now Mariachi Girl share encouraging stories of the sacrifices and dreams of immigrants.
