WEBWIRE

Jazz, modern, art and pop singers are bringing a musical feast to the Third Annual Benefit Party of Melodia Women’s Choir of NYC on June 14, 2009, 5 to 8 pm, in the East Village NYC. Tickets are only $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The event will be held at Common Ground Bar, 206 Avenue A.

Proceeds from the benefit will kick off the upcoming season and support music scholarships for singers. The evening features free food, drink specials, plus outstanding raffle and auction prizes donated by many generous supporters.

Melodia Women’s Choir is celebrating a spectacular season with this summer eve party. Singers from the 36-member choir are taking center stage with their own musical performances, along with a new Melodia Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Artistic Director Cynthia Powell.

Performers include Bora Yoon, Steff Lyon, Ali Rulle, Valerie Eskridge, Rachel Wifall and Colleen Christie & Friends, and Rosemary Pallandino & Friends.

Prizes in the raffle and auction include METS tickets at Citi Field, free passes to the Museum of Art and Design, original artwork and photography by Jay Venute, Dave Lyon and others, Babes in Toyland specials, a special offer to own a building on the Panorama of the Queens Museum of Art, Book and CD collections, and more.

Founded in 2003 by Jennifer Clarke, Executive Director, Melodia Women’s Choir’s recent season ended with “Visions of Eternity” an unique concert with an all-women’s orchestra presented in collaboration with the Sacred Music in a Sacred Space series in May. With works by French composer Olivier Messiaen, the concert was featured in Women’s eNews, Epoch Times, by the French Cultural Society and on BlogTalk Radio.

Praised by WNYC for its “elegance and ringing tones,” Melodia Women’s Choir is devoted to exploring, discovering and creating music for women’s choir and performs classical, contemporary and premiere works. Melodia has commissioned women composers Becca Schack, Allison Sniffin and Chris Lastovicka, whose new work will be premiered in New York in fall 2009. Melodia has appeared twice in the Symphony Space Wall to Wall marathons, at Merkin Concert Hall, and as guest artists at the celebration of Women’s History Month sponsored by New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson.

Tickets for the June 14 Benefit Party of Melodia Women’s Choir are $15 in advance and may be purchased online or by phone, or $20 at the door.
