Low-Power Laser Sensor Provides High-Precision Tracking for Trackball;
Wireless Technology Delivers Reliable RF Connection and Extends Battery Life

SAN JOSE, Calif.- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that Behavior Tech Computer Corporation (BTC), a leading manufacturer of PC peripherals, has selected Cypress’s OvationONS™ I Laser Navigation Sensor, WirelessUSB™ LP radio and enCoRe™ III microcontroller for a new wireless media center keyboard. The sleek, multifunctional 9039URF III keyboard uses the CYONS1001T0 sensor to provide high accuracy tracking performance for its trackball. The precision, small form-factor, and low-power of the OvationONS sensor provide the flexibility to design with a variety of sizes and materials for trackballs. Additionally, Cypress’s 2.4-GHz WirelessUSB LP radio and enCoRe III microcontroller deliver flawless and low-power wireless connectivity to the keyboard.

OvationONS laser navigation products feature Cypress’s patented OptiCheck™ technology, a detection scheme that maximizes tracking performance and reduces power consumption versus traditional image capture/correlation techniques. Combined with Cypress’s ultra-low power wireless technology, the total human interface device (HID) solution prolongs battery life for the keyboard. The industry-leading interference immunity of Cypress’s AgileHID™ protocol allows the keyboard to operate uninterrupted in the home environment, where the 2.4-GHz spectrum is crowded with signals from Wi-Fi, microwaves, cordless phones and other devices.

“Cypress’s OvationONS I laser sensor and wireless HID solution deliver the precise navigation and low power consumption we wanted for our media center keyboard,” said Roger Tsai, President of Input Device Division at BTC. “In addition to the benefits of the technology, Cypress’s one-stop-shopping HID portfolio simplified our design process and cut our time to market.”

“BTC’s multimedia keyboard is an excellent showcase of the complete solution for wireless human interface devices that only Cypress offers,” said Shuo Zhang, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Cypress’s Optical Navigation Solutions. “Our technology enabled BTC to incorporate a trackball and wireless connectivity into their multimedia keyboard without having to sacrifice tracking performance, battery life or reliability.”

About OvationONS I sensors
The OvationONS I family integrates a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) and detector in a compact 8 mm x 8 mm QFN package with a simple snap-on lens design. The simple two-piece device has built-in laser eye safety management, eliminating the need for laser power calibration during assembly to reduce manufacturing complexity and cost. In addition to keyboard trackball solution, the OvationONS I family also includes devices targeted for high performance laser mouse applications. Cypress’s OptiCheck technology’s signal-processing speed and power consumption is independent of the sensor’s tracking speed. OvationONS I sensors can simultaneously support full speed (52 inches per second) and full resolution (3200 counts-per-inch), maximizing the counts-per-second recorded by the mouse and avoiding the “deceleration” effect that hampers many sensors on the market today. In addition, the family uses a position-sampling rate as high as 40 kHz, allowing the sensors to have instant response to changes in tracking direction or speed with significantly reduced latency.

About Cypress Wireless HID Solutions
Cypress’s Wireless HID Solutions include laser navigation sensors, 2.4-GHz wireless transceivers and peripheral microcontrollers. The world’s only complete HID portfolio offers one-stop-shopping and an unparalleled feature set to enable high precision tracking, superior interference immunity, low bill-of-materials (BOM) costs, higher data rate applications, and faster time-to-market for wireless mice, keyboards, gaming devices, presenter tools, and remotes, as well as other simple, multi-point-to-point wireless applications. The industry-leading AgileHID protocol uses Cypress’s patented frequency-agile DSSS technology to offer best-in-class interference immunity for a 2.4-GHz wireless system. Cypress’s Wireless HID Solutions also incorporate the user-friendly KISSBind™ feature, which enables a user to pair a wireless peripheral to the desired host without using binding buttons, thus lowering customer support calls.
