Cargotec to expand its operations in South Africa

September 1, 2006
Kalmar, the business area providing container handling solutions within Cargotec, has signed an agreement to acquire the Kalmar equipment related service business of African National Engineering (ANE) based in South Africa. ANE’s service business will be merged with Kalmar Industries South Africa (Pty) Ltd, the subsidiary Kalmar established in South Africa in the first quarter of 2006. The subsidiary focuses on the sales and service of straddle carriers, RTG cranes and terminal tractors.

The merger of ANE’s service business with Kalmar operations in South Africa also strengthens the cooperation in service between Kalmar and South African Port Operations (SAPO) together with the equipment orders published earlier this year. SAPO has several on-going development projects in the ports of South Africa as the total container volume is expected to approach 3 million TEU in 2006 (TEU stands for 20 ft container).
