Ford Motor Company Honors UGS with Prestigious Ford Q1 Certification, Ford’s Commendation for Suppliers

Ford Q1 Certification Designates UGS as Preferred Ford Supplier and Confirms UGS Commitment to Customer Satisfaction

Tuesday, May 2, 2006, PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Ford Motor Company honored it with the Ford Q1 Certification. Ford Q1 Certification designates UGS as a preferred supplier of engineering software products and services, and recognizes the company for achieving excellence in four critical areas: capable systems, continuous improvement, ongoing performance and customer satisfaction. The Q1 certification is the highest commendation Ford gives to its suppliers.

Ford developed the Q1 certification program by establishing standards that represent a consensus on good management practices, with the aim of ensuring that the supplier organization can consistently deliver product or services that will meet and exceed the customer’s quality requirements. To be recognized as a Ford Motor Company Q1 supplier, vendors must achieve a high level of performance for six consecutive months prior to being awarded with Q1 Certification and maintain that level on an ongoing basis. During the evaluation process, Ford and the supplier agree on metrics for achievement and Ford meets with the supplier to continually assess progress.

Ford Q1 Certification provides UGS with preferred status for new sourcing within targeted commodities; publicly acknowledges UGS as a supplier that stands among the best in the world; and qualifies the company for consideration of Ford Motor Company’s World Excellence Award, which is only given to the best-of-the-best automotive suppliers. Ongoing qualification of Ford Q1 Status by UGS provides Ford with the means to accurately forecast quality, drive continuous improvement and ensure customer satisfaction with its preferred supplier.

“UGS is proud to be named as a preferred Ford supplier and to receive the Ford Q1 Certification,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, executive vice president, Global Ford Account, UGS. “The Ford Q1 Certification is acknowledgement of UGS’ commitment to Ford and the hard work and excellent results the Ford-UGS team has achieved. UGS’ mantra is to never let a customer fail and this recognition by a longstanding valued customer and a global automotive industry leader serves as a proof point for UGS’ relentless pursuit of customer satisfaction.

“The certification is also a testament to UGS’ leading edge PLM technology. UGS is being recognized for providing Ford a dynamic open platform PLM system that is scalable and customizable to meet Ford’s stringent requirements. UGS is a perfect choice to receive the Q1 certification,” said Hemmelgarn.
