Custom bike designer Arlen Ness to create gaze-grabbing chopper to promote Xerox Nuvera line

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 13, 2006 -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) will rev up the excitement around its high-quality monochrome Xerox Nuvera™ Digital Production System with a marketing program that pairs it with a high-speed custom motorcycle built by California-based bike designer Arlen Ness.
The bike will highlight many of the Xerox Nuvera system’s features - quality, customization, speed and performance - with head-turning imagery and design work. The Xerox motorcycle, named “Nu-Ness” - a combination of the “Nu” in Nuvera and Ness, tied to the naming tradition of custom bikes created by Ness and his son Cory - will feature a fine detail paint job with the kind of black-and-white contrasts, halftones and line work that’s found in monochrome documents produced on Nuvera systems.

Known as one of the world’s most innovative builders of customized motorcycles, Ness turned a hobby that started in his garage in the 1960s into Arlen Ness Enterprises, a multimillion-dollar family business with a 70,000-square-foot headquarters in Dublin, Calif.

“Our business philosophy is ’always innovate, never imitate,’ and the Xerox Nuvera system reflects the same kind of innovation,” said Ness. “This bike will draw attention on the road or wherever it goes. Today’s bikers span the social, cultural and economic spectrum. Underneath the helmet you’re likely to find recreational riders as well as doctors, lawyers and successful business people from all kinds of industries.”

The Xerox Nuvera custom motorcycle will be used to generate excitement at a variety of customer events, Xerox venues and possibly select bike events with Arlen Ness Motorcycles.

Like the cutting-edge motorcycles Ness has been building for nearly 40 years, the Xerox Nuvera is designed for high image quality and fast speeds; three digital systems in the family print at 100, 120 and 144 pages-per-minute. The printing system can also be “custom-built” to fit customer needs with scanning, feeding and finishing options that accelerate print shop productivity and support custom applications.

The Xerox Nuvera features patented SmartPress imaging technology that delivers benchmark prints by continuously monitoring and adjusting key system components, performance and reliability. Print resolution is 4800 x 600 dots per inch, the highest of any digital black-and-white production printing system on the market.

Image quality is further enhanced with line screening - the number of rows of dots per inch in an image - up to 156 lines per inch, providing increased sharpness and more realistic photos. That level of screening is unsurpassed by competitive products.

“The addition of two Xerox Nuvera 144 production systems keeps us on the cutting edge of variable data technology,” said Art Simpson, president of EU Services, a Rockville, Md.-based full service direct mail production facility. “Combined with our two Xerox iGen3™ Digital Production Presses, we can offer the benefits of personalized direct mail to any customer for virtually any project and budget.”

Other recent Nuvera installations include Ditto Document Solutions in Pittsburgh, which recently added two Xerox Nuvera 120 systems and is now winning many jobs that used to be printed in large quantities on offset presses. Blaze Digital Printing Services LLC in Lumberton, N.J., purchased three Xerox Nuvera 120 systems, each producing more than 1.2 million pages a month, including books, manuals and pharmaceutical forms. Offset Paperback Manufacturing Inc., a leading paperback book manufacturer, has added one Xerox Nuvera 120 in its Laflin, Pa., facility.

“We have been updating the Xerox Nuvera System to give our customers what they need to be successful, from faster speeds to new applications,” said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. “The ’Nu-Ness’ bike is a fun, attention-getting way to showcase how the Xerox Nuvera Digital Production System can put customers ahead of the pack and on the road to profits.”

The Xerox Nuvera custom motorcycle will be built at Ness headquarters and will be unveiled later this year. Updates on the bike and its development can be seen at www.Nu-Ness.xerox.com.

Xerox Nuvera Production Systems - designed to produce a range of documents from promotional transaction pieces to books and manuals - were announced in May 2004 and are based on a next-generation technology platform. Xerox made a $400 million investment in the digital products, which include 300 patented technologies.
