Discovery Communications Receives Five News and Documentary Emmy Award Nominations

Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications received five Emmy nominations as the 30th Annual News and Documentary Emmy nominations were announced today by the National Television Academy. Discovery Communications nominations include Discovery Channel (4) and Discovery Health (1).

Discovery Channel’s in-depth documentary series KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY earned a nomination in each of the following two categories: Outstanding Historical Programming - Long Form for KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY: THE LAST LYNCHING; and Outstanding Individual Achievement In A Craft: Cinematography for KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY: THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CAPITALISM. WHEN WE LEFT EARTH: THE NASA MISSIONS, a miniseries produced in association with NASA to honor the agency’s 50th anniversary, received a nod for Outstanding Individual Achievement In A Craft: Music and Sound. The network’s APOCALYPSE HOW is nominated for Outstanding Individual Achievement In A Craft: Graphic Design and Art Direction.

Discovery Health’s BODY IN NUMBERS, which combines high-tech graphics and live action to decode the human body’s vital statistics, received a nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement In A Craft: Lighting Direction and Scenic Design.

The 30th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards are a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The Awards will be presented on Monday, September 21 at a ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.
