High-Speed CVD31XT Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter Joins Extensive Family of NETGEAR Products for Cable Operators

SAN JOSE, Calif. - NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR) a worldwide provider of technologically innovative, branded networking solutions, today announced that its embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter for cable operators, Cable eMTA (CVD31XT), for delivering Data and Packetcable™ Voice, received DOCSIS® 3.0 and PacketCable 1.5 certification in CableLabs®’ Certification Wave 64. DOCSIS 3.0 specifies support for at least four bonded channels downstream and four bonded channels upstream. The resulting data rates of up to 160 Mbps downstream and 120 Mbps upstream enable cable operators to provide blazing fast Internet service and the most advanced service offerings available to residential and Small- to Medium-sized Business (SMB) customers.

“We’re very pleased to be able to offer the DOCSIS 3.0 and PacketCable 1.5-certified CVD31XT to our cable operator customers worldwide. It provides voice service capability combined with the strategic performance advantage of DOCSIS 3.0, which gives them a competitive advantage in Triple Play service delivery,” said David James, director of product management for NETGEAR. “Achieving these Certifications from CableLabs for our eMTA is yet another milestone in innovation for NETGEAR as we continue to expand our product line designed specifically to serve the cable market.”

NETGEAR’s certified CVD31XT Cable eMTA enables service providers to offer unprecedented speeds on a Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) broadband network, as well as delivering two voice lines. The dynamic CVD31XT Cable eMTA is future-proof with Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and is also backwards compatible with DOCSIS 2.0, DOCSIS 1.1 and DOCSIS 1.0. It supports remote management and provisioning, simple plug-in installation, and post-installation manageability with Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). In addition, it offers both USB 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet ports so users can take full advantage of their high-speed WAN connections for enjoying the broadest spectrum of multimedia, including IP telephony, instant high-speed Web access, file sharing, multimedia conferencing, video streaming and download, high performance gaming, and MP3 downloading. The CVD31XT also comes equipped with a back-up battery to maintain service during power failures.

NETGEAR’s CVD31XT Cable eMTA joins an expanding family of CableLabs-Certified® NETGEAR products that enable cable operators to offer advanced home networking services to their subscribers. NETGEAR has a complete portfolio of interoperable residential and SMB Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), enabling service providers to control the deployment and operation of new services that increase revenues while reducing installation complexity and follow-up customer support.
