Alcatel is launching Project Montaigne to strengthen its presence in the Paris region
Creation of a world-class R&D center in the south of Paris.
Paris, January 24, 2006 - Alcatel CIT is today announcing, to the employee representatives and to its employees, a project to group its activities in the Paris region at two locations: Nieuport in the city of Velizy and Villarceaux in Nozay, each of which will have around 3,000 people. The Nieuport location will be mainly dedicated to customer and support functions, while the Villarceaux center will become one of the main R&D centers of Alcatel (CGEP: PA and NYSE:ALA) in the world, and one of the leading centers for ICT in the Paris area. It will be at the heart of the French government System@tic competitiveness cluster.
Near Villarceaux, the Marcoussis “Mediapole” will host several partners and SMEs to create a dynamic environment to develop Alcatel communications and multimedia solutions.
Other locations in France, which were strengthened in 2005, are not impacted by this project, nor are the Enterprise activities, which will stay in Colombes.
Project Montaigne will increase the operational efficiency of Alcatel activities in the region, which are currently spread over seven locations in the Paris area. Gathering these activities will notably maximize work teams’ interaction and enable the company to more rapidly adapt to an ever-changing market.
Alcatel is planning to invest around 40 million euros to develop existing locations and construct new buildings to welcome employees with state-of-the-art facilities and working conditions. Employee transfers, involving around 2500 people, will take place before the end of 2007.
These transfers will be facilitated with accompanying measures. Furthermore, Alcatel will now open a phase of dialog, with employees and employee representative, as some options and terms are still to be finalized in order to reach an agreement on a project that will be suitable for the greatest majority.
