Check Point and other Leading Partners Join Crossbeam in São Paulo to Discuss Next Generation Security Market Trends and Solutions

BOXBOROUGH, Mass. and SÃO PAOLO – Crossbeam Systems announced today that it has expanded into Brazil to serve the growing demand for its Next Generation Security Platform solutions in Latin America. To support the expansion, Crossbeam has appointed industry veteran Rogerio de Campos Morais as general manager of Latin America to head up operations and develop the market for Crossbeam’s advanced security technology.

Crossbeam’s customer base comprises more than 700 large enterprises and service providers, including industry leaders like ABN Amro, Bank Leumi, BT, Emirates Bank, Fujitsu, Scottrade and Telefonica Empresas. Customers rely on Crossbeam to protect their high-performance networks and manage their security infrastructure with an extremely reliable and scalable best-of-breed security platform.

The Latin American division of Crossbeam is focusing expansion efforts in Brazil due to the strong economic growth and demand for security services. According to 2008 Frost & Sullivan research*, Brazil accounts for more than one-third of Latin America’s network security market. Moreover, Brazil has one of the largest hacker communities in the world and companies there are increasingly concerned about protecting their networks.

“Brazil’s growing economy and heightened interest in security have created solid market conditions for Crossbeam to increase its presence in the region,” said Pete Fiore, president and CEO of Crossbeam. “Rogerio’s experience at IBM ISS combined with his IT security expertise and understanding of the local market will be great assets to Crossbeam. We are confident in our ability to drive demand for our platform and further develop key distribution channels in Brazil and across Latin America.”

Crossbeam virtualizes the delivery of third-party security applications from leading vendors, including Check Point, IBM Internet Security Systems (ISS), Imperva, Trend Micro, Sourcefire and Websense. It is the only network platform on the market that can consolidate best-of-breed applications on a single chassis and intelligently control traffic flows at speeds of up to 40 Gbps. The Crossbeam X-45 and X-80 next generation security platforms virtualize hundreds of instances of multiple security applications and routes network traffic through them based on strict security policies. A single platform can replace entire network infrastructure segments, including security appliances, load balancers, switches and network cabling.

“Crossbeam is well positioned to take advantage of the market opportunity in Latin America,” said Morais. “We deliver significant cost savings through consolidation and simplification, directly addressing the needs of Latin American IT managers looking to manage the growth of their security infrastructure while maintaining reliable, high-performance security.”

Morais has 17 years of IT experience and 10 years of information security experience. Prior to joining Crossbeam, he was the regional sales manager of IBM ISS in Brazil, where he led the successful integration of the company after its acquisition by IBM in 2006, as well as the implementation of IBM’s first security operations center (SOC) in Latin America. During his tenure, IBM became an industry leader in information security. Morais has a civil engineering degree from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paolo and an M.B.A. from the University of São Paulo.

In his new role at Crossbeam, Morais will be responsible for running the company’s sales and marketing efforts as well as managing operations. A primary focus will be on collaborating closely with Crossbeam’s leading security and integration partners in Latin America to develop opportunities for deploying next-generation security services.

“Crossbeam is a highly valued Check Point partner, and this expansion will greatly complement our efforts to protect against threats to corporate networks and data centers of our Brazil-based customers,” said Cecil Perez, vice president of sales, Latin America at Check Point, a key Crossbeam software partner.

Crossbeam Kicks Off Launch with Seminar on Network Security Trends

To support its expansion into Brazil, Crossbeam is hosting a seminar today titled, “The Next Generation: Best of Breed Network Security for a Booming Economy,” to be held at the Grand Hyatt São Paulo from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

In addition to presentations from senior executives at IBM ISS and Check Point, the meeting will highlight the details of Crossbeam’s expansion into Brazil and go-to-market strategy. The seminar will also highlight trends in network security and offer discussions with industry experts about what to expect from next-generation network security. These include advances in content gateway security, virtualized security services, IDS/IPS and Web application firewall from best-of-breed providers in conjunction with Crossbeam Next Generation Security Platform.

“The IBM Proventia Network IPS running on Crossbeam’s next generation security platform delivers the industry’s highest performing network intrusion protection solution,” said Greg Adams, Director, Product and Services Management at IBM ISS. “The Crossbeam-IBM solution, capable of reaching up to 40 Gbps even under typical load and attack conditions, will greatly appeal to the large enterprises and carriers we serve in Brazil. These companies demand best-in-class intrusion prevention that does not compromise network performance.”
