Stockholm, Sweden and Transport Network Strategies, Barcelona, Spain – Following the successful launch earlier this year of the industry’s first 4 Gbit/s CWDM / DWDM Multi-Service Muxponder, Transmode extends these capabilities to the TS-Series. The new 5810 Multi-Service Muxponder is targeted for Mobile Backhaul and other Next Generation Network (NGN) migration applications for both network operator and enterprise customers.

The new 5810 Multi-Service Muxponder allows operators and enterprise customers to deploy multiple services over a single 4 Gbit/s CWDM or DWDM wavelength. This new approach is ideally suited to NGN access migration and combining 2G/3G Mobile Backhaul using a combination of SONET/SDH and GbE.

Utilizing four client ports and two 4 Gbit/s line ports, to support optional line protection, the 5810 offers users great scalability in a highly compact form factor. For example, users can grow node capacity from a number of SONET/SDH clients to hybrid SONET/SDH/GbE/Fibre Channel services delivery all on a single wavelength. A typical example, such a mobile backhaul SDH to GbE transition scenario, could be upgrading from 2x OC-3/STM-1 to 2x OC-3/STM-1 or OC-12/STM-4 plus 2x Gigabit Ethernet services. This provides considerable upgrade capacity and therefore future proofs the backhaul network.

Furthermore as the 5810 includes functionality such as in-band management, the unit can be deployed in a 1u chassis to provide a very compact, low power and low cost multi-service add/drop node. By taking advantage of Transmode’s Low Power Design concept, the unit ensures low total cost of ownership with worst case power consumption for the unit of only 14W. The same unit can be configured to support any multi-service combination up to the maximum line rate of 4 Gbit/s and also a 3x 4 Gbit/s Regenerator function to reduce spares holdings and operating expenses. Overall, these features, combined with the TS-Series’ focus on ease-of-use, ensure the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

Using 4 Gbit/s optics, Transmode’s Intelligent WDM (iWDMTM) capabilities and transparent transport, the 5810 provides users with the best possible functionality and capacity/price ratio for single wavelength, multi-service applications. The unit supports SONET/SDH and GbE performance monitoring as well as GbE client utilization data. In addition, the 5810 also supports 1+1 protection capabilities via dual line ports.

The 5810 will be commercially available in December 2008 and is already scheduled for customer acceptance testing for applications including SDH/SONET to GbE NGN migration.

“The TS-Series Multi-Service Muxponder is a great extension to our product portfolio”, said Patrik Von Matern, Transmode’s CTO. “With industry leading ease-of-use, the TS-Series is ideally suited to Enterprises and network operators who wish to keep their optical networks as simple to use as possible, The new 5810 Multi-Service Muxponder enables these customers to easily migrate to Next Generation Networks without the need for complex transport solutions”.
