Making Progress Possible – Caterpillar Rules the Waves at WorkBoat 2008

WEBWIRE

Hamburg, Germany – Caterpillar Marine Power Systems (CMPS) and its products can be found virtually everywhere on the seven seas. However, the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, December 3-5, will be the first place ever where it has ruled not only the waves but also a 6-metre (18-foot) tall waterfall. The attraction will draw visitors to the CMPS stand.

The International WorkBoat Show is the largest commercial marine tradeshow in North America serving people and businesses working on inland, coastal and offshore waters. Caterpillar has been participating in the show since its very beginning in 1978. This year, “Making Progress Possible” is the theme of the CMPS stand, also depicted on a 10-metre (30-foot) long panoramic wall.

Starting with the all new Cat® C6.6 generating set, rated 100-170 ekW at 1,500 rpm (50 Hz) respectively 1,800 rpm (60 Hz), at the front of the stand, the visitor can progress through a series of solution kiosks to a huge EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Tier 2-compliant Cat 3516C propulsion engine. While moving, visitors will be shown how Caterpillar supports its customers with tailor-made offers throughout the entire life cycle of vessels and their engines.

The solutions being highlighted this year will include customised financing and insurance packages, emission upgrade kits for Cat C280 and Cat 3600 products, certified re-manufactured parts and overhaul kits for Cat 6.25-bore legacy engines. Also new will be an interactive touch screen display featuring video portraits of Caterpillar’s global marine engine facilities, selected Caterpillar dealers and testimonials from Cat and MaK customers around the world.

In addition, CMPS will be proud to welcome Captain Keith Colburn of the popular television show “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery Channel as a special guest. He will make a presentation on December 3 and 4 at 1 pm in Room 206 showing “How Caterpillar helps him ‘Make Progress Possible’ when fishing in the rough environment of the Bering Sea”. After each presentation, Captain Keith will be on the Caterpillar stand for an autograph-signing session.

Also during the WorkBoat Show, Caterpillar representatives will participate in various panel discussions, including a presentation on “Diesel Electric Propulsion” and a debate about “EPA Tier 4 Regulation”.

Caterpillar’s dedication to positive and sustainable development is also expressed in the fact that the builder is committed to designing a stand which is at least 85% reusable for future trade shows. On 280 square metres of space, the CMPS display at the International WorkBoat Show 2008 will offer plenty of opportunity to meet Team Caterpillar. We are looking forward to welcoming you December 3-5 in Hall A on Stand 721/821, right next to the hall entrance.
