Resilient Network Improves Productivity

The solution for Petrofac supports IP telephony and advanced multimedia conferencing to facilitate improved communications within the company.

Wireless network access for Petrofac senior executives was an important part of the Nortel solution. Designed and implemented by Nortel and its channel partner, Alpha Data, the Petrofac Sharjah network and data center benefits from a resilient architecture that enables sub-second network recovery should a network failure be detected. The Petrofac deployment is based on Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 (ERS 8600) at the core. ERS 8600 provides full quality of service (QoS) capabilities as well as non-stop operation through Nortel’s innovative Split Multi-Link Trunking (SMLT) technology which provides always-on availability and ensures connections are not lost. Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 5520 is used for the server stacks and edge devices providing high-density Gigabit desktop connectivity and Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability.
