Kenyan Nation Media selects CoreMedia CMS – Stronger footprint in Africa for German Software Vendor

Hamburg – The Nation Media Group (NMG), the largest independent media and publishing house in East and Central Africa, has re-launched its portfolio of websites with CoreMedia CMS.
In August Nation Media Group re-launched www.nation.co.ke, the official site of Daily Nation, the biggest daily newspaper in Kenya and www.eastafrican.com.

From today on, all Nation Media Group sites – whether newly introduced or re-launched - are equipped with a unified newsroom, combining online and print resources together. Editors now work together on the content for all channels and the workflows are mapped in the CMS agnostic of the output channel. The new content management system enables Nation Media Group to offer premium content in a variety of media formats such as videos, pictures and articles plus embedded User Generated Content such as ratings and comments. With Digital Technology International (DTI), one of the leading print publishing systems has been integrated with CoreMedia CMS to guarantee a seamless workflow. Comprehensive search is provided by FAST. Award winning ShakeUp Media was the design partner for the project.

More than 200,000 articles from the past ten years have been integrated into the new platform for re-use across all of the Nation Media Group sites. These sites include a newly designed website for Africa’s biggest daily newspaper, the Daily Nation and the regional newspaper, the East African. The group also launched websites for it’s national TV station NTV, allowing downloadable video links, and it’s radio station Easy Fm, which now includes current information on the currently playing and next song. In addition, the Nation Media Group now establishes with www.nationafrica.com a brand-new portal with a focus on all of Africa, aggregating its news from the other five sites of Nation Media Group. The Nation, East African and Nation Africa all have WAP channels.

“We have created progressive portals for East Africa with up to date features and technology that is down-to-earth and sustainable at the same time. This is an essential aspect of our digital strategy, which is to have internet sites for each of our brands and to also make some of this content available via mobile platforms. We are pleased to have found in CoreMedia an innovative and reliable partner to support us in reaching that goal“, says Ian Fernandes, the Managing Director of the Nation Digital Division.

Phil Radcliffe of CoreMedia adds: “We are very proud to accompany Nation Media Group as it extends its leadership in the emerging market of digital publishing in Africa. It has been a great project where the expertise of our people in the media and publishing business and our technology has come together with a great customer.”
