Innovative online jukebox offers on-demand, ad-supported access to Warner Music catalogue

Warner Music International (WMI) and online jukebox Deezer today announced a global content and revenue partnership. Warner Music’s first-class catalogue of audio content will be made available for on-demand streaming as part of Deezer’s free-to-access service. Under the terms of the deal, both companies will share in revenues generated by Deezer’s ad-supported platform. Effective immediately, France is the first country in which Deezer will make Warner Music tracks available, with UK and Germany scheduled to follow by early 2009 once Deezer’s local offices have been established.

Deezer offers its users the opportunity to create and share online playlists, join a community of music fans as well as stream both traditional and ‘intelligent’ internet radio stations. As part of the agreement, WMI will have access to promotional opportunities across the site, including editorial content management of Warner Music artist pages. Links to purchase downloads from well-known online retailers are also embedded throughout the Deezer network.

Eric Daugan, Vice President, Digital Business, WMI said “Deezer’s compelling ad-supported platform offers its visitors the chance to explore our catalogue, discover new music and easily buy the tracks they love from affiliate services. We are now in a position to work with Deezer and third party advertisers to monetize a wide range of listening habits and to create online events and products that connect our artists with audiences in new, exciting ways.”

Jonathan Benassaya, CEO, Deezer said “We are thrilled to welcome WMI onboard. This partnership will give our visitors access to the breadth and depth of Warner Music’s catalogue – both international and local artists. The agreement represents a very important step in our business development and further strengthens Deezer’s offering to its ever-widening community of users.”
