Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato wins Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2008
Intense™: A convenient tomato for slicing, cutting and dicing without losing its shape
Monheim, February, 2008 – Nunhems, the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience, has won the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2008 for the new tomato concept’ Intense™. This award for outstanding innovations in the fresh vegetable produce sector and its service industries is organised by Messe Berlin and Fruchthandel Magazine and voted for by the visitors of the Fruit Logistica.
Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato is a full-flesh tomato with a higher density, which does not lose its juice. The high density of Intense™ makes it a convenient tomato for slicing, dicing and cutting in any other form without losing its shape. The ability to retain the juice results in a lasting fresh appearance after cutting. These characteristics, together with the deep red color make Intense™ a very convenient tomato for fresh salads, pizza toppings, wraps, sandwiches or as a cooking tomato. With Intense™, tomato becomes an attractive and cost-effective part of everyday pre-cut salads and meals eaten in or out-of-home.
Intense™ was first launched in early 2007, in Spain and is currently being produced in the Mediterranean area. The main focus consumer markets are in Western Europe and Northern-America. To supply the US market the program was launched in Mexico.
