Funding supports development of new center, to open next month in Barberton

PPG Industries Foundation has pledged $15,000 to the capital campaign for the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center, whose grand opening is scheduled for Dec. 15.

“We are very pleased to receive support from PPG for our brand-new community center,” said Vince Mealy, executive director, Lake Anna YMCA Community Center. “The funding helps cover construction costs and enables the center to provide recreation, wellness and other programs that help build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.”

A new branch of the Akron Area YMCA, the Lake Anna YMCA Community Center is a 57,000-square foot building in Barberton with a 42,000-square foot YMCA, a 10,000-square foot Barberton Community Center Active Adult Division and a 5,000-square foot Anna Dean physical therapy center operated by Barberton Citizens hospital.

“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Richard Bauer, plant manager for PPG’s optical products and specialty chemicals manufacturing facility in Barberton. “We are proud to support the new Lake Anna YMCA Community Center in its efforts to expand health, wellness and recreation opportunities for young people, families and senior citizens in Barberton and southwest Summit County.”
