Acceptance of ITIL Version 3 Grows Rapidly
OTTSVILLE, PA, USA November 16, 2007 – With over 50 vendor exhibits and a large audience, the 16th Annual itSMF Conference was not only a success, but a milestone in the acceptance of ITIL v3. As an independent international forum for IT Service Management professionals, itSMF has had a leadership position in promulgating ITIL in general as well as the rewrite and launching of version 3 earlier this year.
ITIL is the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, a library of service-oriented guides for the operations of the IT department within any organization. Version 3 of ITIL has a number of significant changes, including reorganization of the books themselves and the addition of a service lifecycle perspective. Since ITIL implementations are underway world-wide, modifications can be sources of confusion even if problems that came up in version 2 implementations are corrected.
“The first day of the conference was reserved for discussion concerning the impact of version 3 during the first six months since publication,” stated Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz IT Standards Support Manager for Eracent, a world-wide provider of IT asset solutions. “It was a great opportunity to meet authors of the ITIL v3 books and have any confusion clarified at the source.”
In addition to the six tracks of information delivered through conventional presentations, the seventh track experimented with innovative learning sessions through the use of simulation games. Since the event was well-attended by training and consulting companies, the experimental track was an excellent idea, assessing new techniques for reaching all types of learners.
