New Editor-in-Chief for Gynecologic Oncology Announced

Karlan, M.D. as the new Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, as of January 1 2008. Dr. Karlan succeeds David M. Gershenson M.D. who has successfully led the Journal for the past 17 years.

Dr. Karlan is the Director of the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Research Institute at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute and is a world renowned expert in the field of gynecologic oncology, specifically ovarian cancer surgery, early detection, targeted therapies, and inherited cancer susceptibility. Her laboratory and translational research efforts have contributed to several innovative treatment strategies. In addition Dr. Karlan is a past-president of the SGO and is currently an Associate Editor on Gynecologic Oncology. She has also held editorial board positions with Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

On this new role, Dr. Karlan commented, “I’m very excited to take these leadership reins from Dr. Gershenson and welcome the opportunity to make Gynecologic Oncology the vanguard journal in our field”.

Gynecologic Oncology is devoted to the publication of clinical and investigative articles that concern tumors of the female reproductive tract. Investigations relating to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of female cancers, as well as research from any of the disciplines related to this field of interest, are published.

As the official Journal of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Journal also brings readers the latest information emerging from the Society’s task forces and publishes guidelines and position papers as they are adopted. Gynecologic Oncology is included in Index Medicus, Current Contents/Clinical Medicine, Index to Scientific Reviews, Science Citation Index, and also covered in the abstract and citation database SCOPUS
