Oracle today announced two new world record results on the two-tier SAP® Sales and Distribution (SD) Standard Application Benchmark for 4-core and 8-core performance running on the SAP ERP 2005 application, showcasing Oracle’s dedication to superior performance and scalability on IBM platforms.
Running AIX 5L 5.3 and SAP ERP 2005 on an IBM System p 570 with two dual-core 4.7 GHz POWER6 processors, Oracle® Database 10g Release 2 achieved 2,035 SAP SD Benchmark users, setting a world record performance result for a 4-core configuration.(1) Oracle Database 10g Release 2 also achieved a second world record benchmark result of 4,010 SAP SD Benchmark users, for an 8-core configuration on similar hardware.(2) Together these world record results demonstrate that Oracle Database 10g Release 2 delivers exceptional linear scaling as more cores are added to the configuration. Additionally, these results reinforce Oracle Database 10g’s continued performance and scalability leadership, particularly for SAP applications and illustrate its outstanding performance on IBM hardware.

The two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark measures the system performance to process dialog steps and order line item postings per hour for SAP solution-based transactions. A transaction consists of a full business process that captures activities from the full order processing cycle from order creation to delivery to invoicing.

“These two record-breaking performance results demonstrate Oracle’s commitment to providing an extremely fast and scalable database for customers’ data-intensive demands when using applications such as those from SAP,” said Juan Loaiza, senior vice president, Systems Technology, Oracle. “Regardless of system size, Oracle delivers stellar performance, bringing users exceptional scalability coupled with the flexibility needed to maximize their technology investments.”
