DEF® provides encryption/decryption facilities to a wide range of IBM mainframe users with varying sophistication

New Hope, PA May 9, 2007 – Applied Software, Inc. announced today the immediate availability of DEF® Data Encryption Facility AS3000 version 3.0 for z/OS mainframe users. Major enhancements over version 2.1 include Triple DES (3DES) and DESX encryption support, a Key Management Program and improved sample programs for applications programmers. Applied Software today also announced upcoming AES encryption and CICS support in release 3.1.

DEF® provides strong encryption/decryption facilities to a wide range of mainframe users with varying sophistication. Major components of DEF® include:

Symmetric Key Management, to generate user keys and associate them with corporate life cycle encryption key policies. The Key Management Component follows the recommendations set forth by NIST for symmetric keys. Utility programs include an Algorithm Verification program, an Algorithm Timing program and an SMF Report Generator program. Batch Encryption/Decryption Programs support sequential and partitioned data set members with any logical record length and record formats of fixed-length, variable-length or undefined-length. DEF® Callable Assembler Language Subroutines can be called by COBOL, FORTRAN, PL/ I and Assembler programs and were designed to be used with user-written applications. Since sensitive data may reside in file structures such as VSAM and in data bases, an interface between DEF® and higher-level languages is provided to permit the encryption and decryption of data at the field level.

With its extensive background in on-line software at large computer installations, ASI recognizes the need to improve data security. Using NIST standards as the basic element of data encryption, ASI began extensive research and development on a comprehensive data encryption facility which was first released in 1987. After years of additional development and testing, ASI’s Data Encryption Facility DEF® now supports additional cryptology algorithms and provides for management of encryption keys. DEF® supports IBM and plug-compatible CPU’s with the z/OS operating systems.

DEF® Data Encryption Facility AS3000 is available under a perpetual Software License Agreement which provides a 45 day, no-charge evaluation period. Cryptographic devices and technical data regarding them are subject to federal government export controls. Organizations affected by these restrictions may contact ASI for additional information.
