ProSafe 24- and 48-Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches Provide Scalability, Speed and Flexibility Enabling Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses to Grow with Ease and Support Advanced Cutting-Edge Networked Technologies Without the Overhead, Cost and Complexity of a Fully-Managed Solution

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – February 12, 2007 – NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced the expansion of its industry-leading family of Stackable Smart Switches with the launch of the ProSafe 24- and 48-Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches (GS724TS and GS748TS). The latest additions to NETGEAR’s ProSafe family of Stackable Smart Switches, the only stackable smart switches in the industry, offer scalability, performance and reliability to growing businesses that require full-featured network switches to support essential business applications such as mission-critical data applications, security, Voice-over-IP and video conferencing, without the overhead, cost and complexity of fully-managed switches.

Designed to meet the network demands of growing small- and medium-sized businesses, the ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches are equipped with 24 (GS724TS) or 48 (GS748TS) 10/100/1000 ports and four shared SFP Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports to support bandwidth-intensive applications such as ERP and large file transfers. In addition, two dedicated stacking ports provide a 20 Gbps, dual-ring, stacking bus that enables users to stack up to six switches, or 288 10/100/1000 ports, and easily manage them all under a single IP address.

Featuring an intuitive web-browser interface which provides simple, yet comprehensive management, the ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches incorporate a complete suite of advanced features for more robust security, higher quality of service for traffic prioritization and high availability including: Access Control Lists (ACL), 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QoS, rate limiting for bandwidth management, and IGMP snooping for managing multicast streams.

NETGEAR’s ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches, which provide robust security, quality of service and true stacking capability to provide scalability and redundancy, eliminate the complexity and cost inherent to a fully-managed Layer 2 switch solution. Whereas regular stand-alone switches can be daisy-chained to accommodate additional ports, managing the daisy chain with multiple IP addresses can consume time and resources. In addition, this approach does not provide resiliency in case of switch failure.

“The GS724TS and GS748TS stackable switches provide a rich set of security and management features matching those you would expect to find in more expensive offerings such as Cisco Catalyst or HP Procurve,” stated James Bricknell, Technical Director at ABD Solutions. “Fully managed gigabit switching has traditionally been the privilege of the more affluent IT departments - NETGEAR has now put this within easy reach of the SMB. NETGEAR has consistently provided the market with ‘more bang for their buck,’ and with features such as bi-directional resilient stacking to guarantee throughput against disruption, and management of the entire stack through a single IP address over HTTP, these units are no exception.”

“There is a great deal of excitement in the SMB sector in anticipation of the addition of the Gigabit Stackable Smart switches to our industry-leading ProSafe family of Stackable Smart Switches,” explained Sanjay Kumar, product line manager at NETGEAR. “SMBs don’t have many tailor-made solutions to help them deal with rapid growth. In addition, businesses today are rapidly deploying advanced applications such as IP telephony, video conferencing as well as other bandwidth-intensive applications. The ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches give SMBs a scalable, advanced, reliable and affordable solution that will enable them to support cutting edge networked applications today while providing them with the flexibility to grow the network as future requirements demand.”

About the ProSafe 24 and 48 Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches
The NETGEAR ProSafe 24 and 48 Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches (GS724TS and GS748TS) offer performance and reliability in a complete affordable network switch solution that delivers scalability and high availability, advanced security, advanced Quality of Service (QoS), and “smart” management features.

Two dedicated high-speed stacking ports provide 20 Gbps of bandwidth and provide the ability to stack as many as six switches, while maintaining high-speed connectivity across the stack with off-the-shelf HDMI cables, which are included with the switches. All switches in the stack are hot-swappable and the stacking technology enables automatic fail-over in case any switch in the stack fails, providing rapid reconfiguration to prevent network downtime.

The new GS724TS and GS748TS provide robust security and advanced Quality of Service to small- and medium-sized businesses including a robust feature set that includes: 802.1x for authentication, ACL filtering, 802.1p and DSCP-based prioritization for prioritization of VoIP traffic, and rate limiting.

Optimized for use with NETGEAR’s ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100), all ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches can be managed as though they are one unit from an easy-to-use browser-based console that can be used for configuration, network monitoring and troubleshooting. The switches also have SNMP to collect and track data, manage devices and more easily enforce critical IT controls and policies.

The NETGEAR ProSafe 24 and 48 Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches (GS724TS and GS748TS) are backed by a limited lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support. Optional NETGEAR ProSupport service offerings include advanced technical support (OnCall 24x7) and next business day hardware replacement (XPressHW). The GS724TS and GS748TS are available via leading direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at a list price of $750 USD and $1,450 USD, respectively.
